Programs and Certificates

Whether you are looking for an bachelors, masters, or doctoral degree program in the library and information management field, SLIM is the place to find quality, student-centered programs that are innovative and flexible to help you meet your educational goals. SLIM also offers non-degree and post-degree certificate programs for career enhancement and training.

The Information Resource Studies bachelors degree program emphasizes the importance of both people skills and technical skills. It is designed to fit a variety of student lifestyles: traditional on-campus, community college transfer, on-line, and degree completion. Click on the link to the left for more information.

The Master of Library Science (MLS) utilizes weekend courses and on-line instruction to create the flexibility of course scheduling required by non-traditional adult learners who cannot afford to relocate to campus as a full-time student.

Several different certificate programs are clustered within the masters degree programs. Students wishing to pursue certification in school library media must take a predetermined set of courses within the MLS curriculum. Students wishing to pursue a career in a corporate field may choose to include a particular set of courses leading toward the Information Management Certificate. A certificate in Legal Information Management is also available for both MLS students and post-MLS students.

The SLIM doctoral program helps to meet the needs of students for whom a residency requirement is not an option. Weekend classes, an online platform for course enhancement, and the possibility of interactive video all help to make this particular goal more achievable. Five new students are admitted to the doctoral program each fall. For more information, follow the link on the left or contact the Director of the SLIM PhD program, Dr. Cecilia Salvatore .

To apply for admission to SLIM, you may use the on-line form from the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at ESU or the paper copy of the application form that we will mail to you with the school catalog.
