Starting the MLS program in Emporia or Overland Park

Cohorts of new students may start the Master of Library Science (MLS) program in Emporia in the fall semester of every year or in Overland Park in the spring semester of every year. The cohort model enables students to develop supportive and professional ties with each other by taking the same courses together. Many of our alumni report that the development of this network is invaluable to their careers following graduation.

Courses are scheduled in a rotation designed for students to complete the MLS program in two years counting summer semesters. Students may take courses at a faster or slower pace and students are not limited to taking courses in only one location.

Students wishing to complete the MLS program in Emporia within two years should follow this enrollment schedule:

First Fall Semester: LI 801 and LI 802
First Spring Semester: LI 804 and LI 806
First Summer Semester: LI 813 and LI 815
Second Fall Semester: LI 805 and LI 810
Second Spring Semester: Elective Courses (6 hours)
Second Summer Semester: Elective Courses (5 hours) and LI 880

Students wishing to complete the MLS program in Overland Park within two years should follow this enrollment schedule:

First Spring Semester: LI 801 and LI 802
First Summer Semester: LI 813 and LI 815
First Fall Semester: LI 804 and LI 806
Second Spring Semester: LI 805 and LI 810
Second Summer Semester: Elective Courses (6 hours)
Second Fall Semester: Elective Courses (5 hours) and LI 880
