LIS Faculty, Doctoral Students, and others interested in LIS education are invited to participate in a November 2, 2004 preconference prior to the SOFIA2004 Conference on Libraries, Globalization and Cooperation to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, 3 - 5 November, 10 am to 12:30 pm in Hall N. 1, in the central building of the Rectorat of Sofia University "St. Klement Ohridski" at 15 Tzar Osvoboditel Blvd. Directions by trolley, bus, or taxi are given below.
The preconference will discuss "Globalization and Cooperation Trends in Library and Information Science Education" will be held at the University of Sofia. The preconference is coordinated by Terry Weech, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is co-sponsored by the University of Sofia and Emporia State University. Panel members involved in library and information science education from the Europe and the U.S. will lead a discussion of issues in library and information studies education relating to globalization and cooperation. The sessions will be held in English. There is no additional cost for attending the pre-conference for registrants at the SOFIA2004 conference. Please check the box on your registration form that you would like to attend the pre-conference.

The goal of the pre-conference is to explore possible ways schools of library and information studies can cooperate internationally on globalization issues as they relate to information science education.

The street address of Central building /Rectorat/ of Sofia University "St. Klement Ohridski" is: 15 Tzar Osvoboditel Blvd. We will meet in HALL N 1 in the Rectorat This is near the station of National Library /by trolleybus N 11, 2, 4 and bus N80/
If you are traveling from Hotel Rodina take trolleybus N 1 and N 5 from the hotel to the Rectorat of Sofia University.
The price for the ticket for trolleybus is 0.50 levs /stotinki/- about 35 cents.
BY TAXI: The price from hotel Rodina to the Rectorat is maximum $3 /about 5 levs/
The Rectorat is the Central building of Sofia University and nearby are the National Library, the church "St. Alexander Nevski", and the Bulgarian Parliament Building.
