The Conference
This conference, held from April 30 to May 2 in 1995, provided a
biennial forum for discussion of current theoretical and practical developments in
librarianship and related fields involved in information work in international
development. In the spring of 1995 it brought together librarians, policy analysts,
academic researchers, and practitioners. The

Conference Organizer
Herbert Achleitner is currently conducting research on the
Global Information Infrastructure and its impact on developing countries. He is
particularly interested in analyzing differences in information strategies of developing
countries. He has also created an educational program for information brokers who will
work with government officials in developing countries, and is one of the organizers of
Globenet, and ongoing international symposium on information issues. Dr. Achleitner's
doctorate from the University of Colorado is in history, and his specialization is
research in information transfer. His MLS is from the University of Denver.
