Student Poster Session

Library and Information Science students and recent graduates are invited to attend and participate in “Sofia 2008: Globalization and the Management of Information Resources” hosted by The School of Library & Information Management, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, USA; the Department of Library and Information Sciences, “St. Kliment Ohridski” University of Sofia, Sofia, Bulgaria; the University of Kansas Libraries, Lawrence, Kansas, USA; Seton Hall University Library, South Orange, New Jersey, USA; and the University of Northern Colorado Libraries, Greeley, Colorado, USA.

Sofia 2008 is a biennial international conference that provides library and information professionals an opportunity to explore the impact of globalization on libraries, information infrastructure, and society. The conference program will include a poster session in which students and recent graduates can showcase their projects.


Guidelines and Tips for Posters


  1. Poster topics should reflect the conference themes:

    • Organization, classification and retrieval in a web environment
    • Access to electronic networks
    • Information industry & knowledge management
    • Information literacy and lifelong learning
    • Digital and virtual libraries
    • Information architecture and knowledge management
    • Information policy issues in an electronic environment
    • Digital rights management (DRM)
    • Education and training in a Web 2.0 environment
    • Ethics and the right to access to information
    • Any other topic approved in advance by the poster session moderator (see below)

  2. Include a statement of the problem, issue, or situation.
  3. State the objectives of the research or project.
  4. Describe the methodology used to solve the problem or implement the program.
  5. Identify major findings or outcomes and their significance.
  6. State the conclusions.
  7. There should be a logical sequence to your display. For example: introduction, development, and conclusion.
  8. Word limit: approximately 250 words.
  9. Indicate if you will need a table or easel to display your poster via e-mail to Perri Parise at pparise@emporia.edu
  10. Bring pins, thumbtacks, or Velcro for mounting your display.
  11. Lettering should be simple, bold, and easily legible at a distance of 1.5 meters.
  12. Include a heading with your poster title that includes your name and the library or school with which you are associated.
  13. Charts, drawing, photographs, and other visuals are encouraged because they enhance the effectiveness of your presentation.
  14. Hand-out materials for attendees are encouraged and should be brought with you.

Each poster presenter is asked to be with his or her poster during the presentation time to talk to conference attendees about your work and to answer questions.

Please include your name, contact information (especially email address), poster title, and a brief summary (about 150 words) of your topic.

The poster presentations will take place at the St. Cyril and Methodius National Library on Wednesday, 12 November, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
