Library and Information Science students and recent graduates are invited to attend and participate in Sofia 2006: Globalization, Digitization, Access and Preservation of Cultural Heritage hosted by The School of Library & Information Management, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, USA, the Department of Library and Information Sciences, “St. Kliment Ohridski” University of Sofia, Sofia, Bulgaria and Seton Hall University.
Sofia 2006 is a biennial international conference that provides library and information professionals an opportunity to explore the impact of globalization on libraries, information infrastructure, and society. The conference program will include a poster session in which students and recent graduates can showcase their projects. Posters will be on display in the exhibitors’ hall throughout the conference. In case you have not presented at a poster session before, the suggestions below should be of help.
1. Poster topics should reflect the conference themes:
Globalization, Digitization, Access and Preservation of Cultural Heritage
L ibraries, museums, archives, and record center
Digitization and access
Intellectual property
National and international information policies and projects
Preservation
National libraries
Association initiatives
Library/information science education
Collaboration and cooperation
Digital libraries
2. Word limit of approximately 250 words
3. Include a statement of the problem, issue, or situation.
4. State the objectives of the research or project.
5. Describe the methodology used to solve the problem or implement the program.
6. Identify major findings or outcomes and their significance.
7. State the conclusions.
8. There should be a logical sequence to your display. For example: introduction, development, and conclusion.
9. Indicate if you will need a table or easel to display your poster via e-mail to the 10. organizing committee at Sofia2006@emporia.edu .
10. Bring pins, thumbtacks, or Velcro for mounting your display.
11. Lettering should be simple, bold, and easily legible at a distance of 1.5 meters.
12. Include a heading with your poster title that includes your name and library or school you are associated with.
13. Charts, drawing, photographs, and other visuals are encouraged because they enhance the effectiveness of your presentation.
14. Hand-out materials for attendees are encouraged and should be brought with you. Each poster presenter is asked to be with their poster during the presentation time to talk to conference attendees about your work and to answer questions.
