Dr. Xiaoya Tang

Xiaoya Tang's research interests focus mainly on the organization and processing of digitized information for effective access and use. She is particularly interested in the application of rapidly changing information technologies such as information retrieval and information extraction to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of information management. She also has interests in the social, cognitive, and ethical aspects affecting the realization of information system technologies. Her present research investigates the potential for augmenting traditional keyword-based full-text retrieval system with the use of automatically extracted semantic information that has been chosen based on prior user search behavior. Her teaching interests include information technology, automatic indexing, information storage and retrieval, web design, information organization and access, and database design.

Dr. Tang earned her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Information Science from Peking University in China .
