Dr. John Agada
Dr. John Agada is a professor at the School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University. He received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh; and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Library and Information Science and Education (Curriculum and Instruction) respectively from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He has taught at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, and the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He also taught briefly at Rutgers – The State University of New Jersey, where he sojourned as a visiting research scholar at the School of Communications, Information and Library Studies.
Dr. Agada teaches courses in research methods, especially qualitative approaches, human information behavior, information needs analysis and services evaluation, teaching in the information professions and the global information infrastructure. His research and service agenda focus on issues of information policy and ethics with special reference to servicing the needs of marginalized and underserved populations of the African Diaspora. Related on-going projects include monographs on community analysis and service design and evaluation, management of indigenous knowledge resources, and consultancies on library program development in Africa. He currently serves as visiting professor to Benue State University in Nigeria.
Dr. Agada has published extensively and presented his work at national and international conferences. He has also won several grants to fund his research and program development projects. The latter include the Nigeria Project (http://nigeriaproject.emporia.edu/), which was initiated in 2000 by a grant from the U.S. Department of State to reform library education at three Nigerian universities; and the Emporia Diversity Initiative (http://slim.emporia.edu/edi/Index.htm), which is being funded between 2006-9 by the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to recruit and graduate ethnic minority librarians with doctoral, Masters and undergraduate degrees at SLIM for service in Kansas, Colorado and Oregon.
