EDI students are assigned two mentors while completing their academic program: a faculty mentor and a workplace mentor. These mentors provide academic and professional guidance and support to EDI students. |
Responsibilities of Mentors
- Participate in new student/mentor orientation and subsequent EDI programs for mentors.
- Be accessible to mentees for face to face or virtual conferences at least once a month. Let students know ahead when you will be inaccessible.
- Educate mentee on relevant policies and procedures, rewards and expectations of higher education and the workplace, as necessary.
- Get acquainted with mentee, and define expectations and ground rules for the mentoring relationship
- Lend a sympathetic ear and be supportive, yet set clear boundaries and explain assumptions in addressing students' needs.
- Facilitate timely access to academic and professional resources and networks relevant to students' needs.
- Work with students to address issues of their academic and professional growth, ethnic and racial climate, and accommodation of work/study routines and projects.
- Meet with relevant faculty and staff to plan and review mentee's academic and professional programs, as necessary.
- Participate in data collection for EDI program evaluation.
- Ensure that mentee abides by the EDI award conditions.
