EDI students are assigned two mentors while completing their academic program: a faculty mentor and a workplace mentor. These mentors provide academic and professional guidance and support to EDI students.

Responsibilities of Mentors

  1. Participate in new student/mentor orientation and subsequent EDI programs for mentors.
  2. Be accessible to mentees for face to face or virtual conferences at least once a month. Let students know ahead when you will be inaccessible.
  3. Educate mentee on relevant policies and procedures, rewards and expectations of higher education and the workplace, as necessary.
  4. Get acquainted with mentee, and define expectations and ground rules for the mentoring relationship
  5. Lend a sympathetic ear and be supportive, yet set clear boundaries and explain assumptions in addressing students' needs.
  6. Facilitate timely access to academic and professional resources and networks relevant to students' needs.
  7. Work with students to address issues of their academic and professional growth, ethnic and racial climate, and accommodation of work/study routines and projects.
  8. Meet with relevant faculty and staff to plan and review mentee's academic and professional programs, as necessary.
  9. Participate in data collection for EDI program evaluation.
  10. Ensure that mentee abides by the EDI award conditions.
