SLIM is widely recognized for a strong theory-based curriculum, an innovative approach to the needs of non-traditional students, and an excellent student support system. We offer a variety of degree and certificate programs to match your educational needs and career goals. All of SLIM's programs challenge you to think creatively, preparing you for a career in a rapidly changing society. In other words, we do more than prepare you for a job that will change over time; we teach you to how to think about and adapt to change.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Resource Studies (IRS) is an interdisciplinary degree program that emphasizes both the people and technical skills necessary to be a successful worker in the knowledge economy. The IRS can be earned with a traditional on-campus schedule of courses. It is also a good option for degree completion for those students who have earned a two-year degree in Library Studies, Library Technology, Instructional Media, etc., and wish to transfer to Emporia State University.
The Master of Library Science (MLS) is the degree most often required for professional positions in public, academic, corporate, and legal libraries. Within our MLS curriculum, SLIM offers specific courses leading to certification in School Library Media, Information Management, Legal Information Management, and Archives Studies. Students may attend classes leading to the MLS degree or certification in Emporia, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Portland.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Library & Information Management degree program starts with the importance of knowledge management and information administration in every sector of life from micro to macro levels and prepares scholars to administer information agencies, to teach in academic environments, and to conduct significant research that establishes linkages between theory and contemporary problems.
Library and information management is a people-oriented profession and that set of values starts with the educational experience. SLIM is a student-centered school that values student input and feedback on every level. I invite you to explore this web site, to call, visit, or inquire by email to learn more about our school, and I wish you the best in the pursuit of your educational and career goals.
