The curriculum of the
School of Library & Information Management

SLIM MLS graduates from 2000 through 2003 indicated that the following are strengths of the SLIM Master of Library Science program:

  • The caring nature of everyone involved; they truly wanted us to succeed. The flexibility of the distance program with fitting into a work schedule was great. I could not have done the program if the classes were offered only on weekdays.
  • Students are given broad exposure to current ideas.
  • Visionary thinking.
  • The weekend intensive model fit my learning style very well.
  • Critical thinking about the theories behind best practices and the emphasis on meeting needs of users.
  • The flexibility in the class schedule, classes were relevant to what we face in the real world and were up-to-date on new technologies. I was very well prepared for my new job.
  • The theory of service and outreach that gives students the needed foundation of a high quality library program.
  • Academic rigor, high expectations.
  • It was geared to those that work full-time, the weekend classes and online classes were a preferred method for me. The faculty have such a wonderful rapport with students.
  • Instructors were very knowledgeable and, for the most part, were very easy to work with and encouraged open discourse.
  • Great professors and an adaptable curriculum.
  • Stong theory-based program easily transfers to an information professional type position.
  • Good professors. A lot of interaction with the library community and opportunities for conferences.
