Patti Butcher Named South Carolina State Library Director
– EMPORIA,
KS
Patti J. Butcher, SLIM Class of 1993, has been named South Carolina
State Library Director. She replaces Jim Johnson who retires the end of
June
Butcher is currently library development coordinator at the Northeast
Kansas Library System in Lawrence. She begins her new duties in South
Carolina July 1. Educated at the Emporia State University School of Library & Information Management and the
University of Kansas, Butcher has worked as director of library
information technology at the Kansas State Library and as department
head for reference and interlibrary loan at the Central Kansas Library
System in Great Bend, Kansas.
Butcher was awarded the Kansas Library Association "President's Award to
New Professional" in 1996. She is a member of the American Library
Association, Kansas Library Association, Public Library Association,
Mountain Plains Library Association and Beta Phi Mu. She has
participated in numerous professional activities for library including
serving as president and vice-president of the Kansas Library Association.
"Patti brings many qualities to the director's position," said B.G.
Stephens, chairman of the Board of Trustees. "The board of trustees is
confident that her expertise and experiences will be an asset to the
South Carolina State Library and its employees."
The South Carolina State Library is located in Columbia, South Carolina
and has served state employees, public libraries and citizens since
1929. It administers the DISCUS program, South Carolina's online
electronic library and Talking Book Services for people with disabilities.
